James is the strategic lead for Verisk Maplecroft’s work with global banks and institutional investors. He is responsible for content development, and frequently writes and speaks on political and ESG risk in financial markets and banking. Prior to his current role, James led the company’s Latin America research team for four years, and concentrated personally on political, security and regulatory risk in Colombia as well as other key countries. Before that, he worked at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), where he focused on Latin American defence and security policy challenges, and as a political risk analyst. He is the principal author of a book on Andean insurgency. James has a master’s degree in Latin American Politics from the University of London. He speaks and writes Spanish at a professional level. He regularly comments in global media outlets.
