Varun works in RBS’s Sustainable Banking team. Varun leads RBS’s engagement with investors on sustainability-related topics and the bank’s approach to non-financial performance measurement and reporting. Other activities include identifying emerging sustainability and reputational risks and opportunities, engaging with various stakeholder groups and representing RBS at industry fora.
Varun previously worked in RBS’s environmental, social and ethical risk management team, where he supported relationship bankers by identifying, assessing and advising on risks presented by customer activities. Prior to joining RBS, Varun worked in PwC’s Sustainability & Climate Change consulting team where he supported various banks and private equity houses on sustainability strategy, policy and procedures development, portfolio analysis and capacity building. Varun has also worked for Innovest Strategic Value Advisors and EIRIS, both providers of investment research on sustainability-related aspects of corporate performance.
Varun has previously served on the Executive Board, and the Managing Committee of the London Chapter, of Oikos – an organisation working at the forefront of a growing momentum towards sustainable development at universities around the world.
Varun has a Masters degree in Environment & Development from the London School of Economics, and a Bachelors (with honours) degree in Environmental Management from Imperial College.
